Clarice Ludora Vervoorn, 66, of Ventura, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 27, 2014, at home surrounded by her family following a brave fight with cancer. She was born January 17, 1948, in Long Beach to James and Cornella Ruth.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother ("Nana"), Clarice took great joy in providing a loving home for her family. She especially treasured taking walks on the beach and riding bikes with her husband Tom. She and Tom met 51 years ago at Emma Wood State Beach. For Tom, it was love at first sight. Just five days after her 19th birthday they were married and one year later welcomed their first child into their lives. All three of her children recall fun family times at the beach, camping, playing games and just hanging out at home, where their friends were always welcome. Clarice had a way of making everyone feel at home. She was never short on smiles or hugs and her melodious laughter brought joy to those around her. She loved to sew and lovingly made clothes and costumes for her children and grandchildren. The family spent many happy times together in their mountain cabin at Shaver Lake. Clarice loved to swim and play and hunt for hidden treasures on the beach at Shaver. She organized these family trips and lent her special touch in the details of making sure that all of the provisions for a good time where included. Clarice and Tom enjoyed many wonderful trips to visit their children throughout the United States, as well as to the Holy Land in Israel. They also went on a mission trip together to Israel, serving the homeless in Tel-Aviv. Church members and friends enjoyed her company on cruises to Alaska and Mexico.
Clarice and Tom are longtime members of Calvary Chapel in Oxnard where Clarice was a discussion leader of various women’s Bible study groups. She also spent many years involved in Bible Study Fellowship. Clarice will always be remembered for the kindness and love shown to all she met.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 1/2 years, Thomas H. Vervoorn of Ventura; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Tonney Kaw-uh of Yorktown, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sheba Vervoorn of Prescott, Arizona; daughter and son-in-law, Tamie and Tracy Beach of Bishop, Califtornia; grandchildren, Bryce, Karese and Nathan Kaw-uh, Sonya, Emma and Luke Vervoorn, Ashlynn and Cyrus Beach; Brothers, Claude and Curtis Ruth, both of Hawaii; sisters, Cecilia Hill of Redding and Arline Anastasion of Washington; Sister-in-law, Julia Vervoorn Babcock of Ventura; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bert W. and Jan Vervoorn of Camarillo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
