

Eleanor was born on February 29, 1928, in Superior, WI, to Paul and Genevieve Chicras, proprietors of the Capital T Rooms where Eleanor met Hank Ertman, her future husband. On September 25, 1948, she married Hank, a minor league baseball player for the White Sox and Braves organizations. Hank later taught math and coached at Buena High School for 29 years. In 1991, Eleanor was preceded in death by Hank after 43 years of loving marriage.
Eleanor devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a constant at Buena High School and Ventura youth athletic events, generously donating to county athletic programs. Eleanor was an active member of the Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, serving on the Rosary Altar Society and Young Ladies Institute for many years. She loved dancing, sports, traveling with family cross country and church groups to Europe. Eleanor was an avid reader who donated time at the Ventura County Library.
Eleanor is survived by seven children, James (Jeanie), Christine, John, Janice, Sandra (Martinez), Michael (Nicola), and Julie. Her grandchildren include Matthew (Stephanie), Eric (Jill), Britton, Sage, Austin, Alexandra, Joe and Ellie Ertman, Michael Brady (Elisa), and Andrew and Malorie Martinez. Great grandchildren include Ciara and Hailey Brady and Avery and Reagan Ertman. Eleanor is also survived by her sister, Francis Sandvick, and two nephews, Sandy and Mark (Sue) Sandvick of Milwaukee and Superior, WI, respectively.
A funeral mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 3175 Telegraph Road, Ventura, CA, will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., followed immediately by a reception in the Assumption Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, contributions on behalf of Eleanor’s memory may be made to any local athletic programs or to St. Jude’s Hospital.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
