Eleanore E. (Sugrue) Hennessy, 80, of Ventura, passed away on June 29, 2014 following a prolonged illness. Eleanore was born on August 10, 1933 in Cambridge, MA to James and Eva (Hurd) Sugrue. She grew up in Cambridge and attended Cambridge High and Latin School.
In 1957, Eleanore married the love of her life, Richard Hennessy. They spent their early years together in Cambridge, MA, eventually moving to the close-knit community of Burlington, MA to raise their three daughters. There they enjoyed their large extended family, wonderful friends and were surrounded with much love and laughter.
Eleanore was not only a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, over the years; she was a successful real estate broker, a receptionist for Mercer Management Consulting and eventually volunteered for the Council on Aging.
Eleanore’s true joy came from her five grandchildren. “Gram”, as she was known to her grandchildren and to many of their friends, was most content when the grandkids were with her. Being Gram was her happiest role in life.
Though Eleanore and Rich recently moved to California to live with family, Eleanore remained a “Bostonian” at heart, often sharing stories from home and cheering on their beloved New England sports teams.
Eleanore is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother, James (Sonny) Sugrue. She is survived by her daughters, Diane (Stephen) Frantela, of Ventura, Donna Johnson of Ventura and Paula Sable of Santee, CA; grandchildren, Nichole and Matthew Austin, Casey Johnson, Alex (Racheal) Frantela and Andrew Frantela; sisters Barbara Boudreau, Joan Sullivan, and brothers, Edward (Beverly), Mike (Polly), and Walter Sugrue.
The family would like to thank Dr. Menon and her team and the CMH palliative care staff for their extraordinary care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of the Assumption, 3175 Telegraph Road, Ventura, CA on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA at 2:00pm

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
