Fonda Lou Harrington

Fonda Lou Harrington, 86, of Ventura, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2013, following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 29, 1926 in Danville, Arkansas and had been a Ventura County resident for 75 years. Fonda moved to California with her mom, dad and two sisters, Eula and Janie. She graduated from Oxnard High School in 1944.

In 1945, Fonda met Don at the skating rink and they married in August of 1947. She started working for the County of Ventura at the age of eighteen, in the Veterans Service Bureau where she helped many veterans with their benefits. She retired in 1981 after 35 years with the County. Fonda always had a soft spot for our veterans.

Fonda enjoyed spending time with her family and playing bingo. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She always commented on just how much she loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert “Jack” and Helen Moudy and her sister, Janie Laverne Spencer. Fonda is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Donald Harrington; daughter, Dona Harrington - McConica; granddaughters, Teryn Castro (husband Armando), Lindsay Laubacher Smith; great grandchildren, Kelsey and Tyler Castro and Michael Smith all of Ventura; sister, Eula Yarter of Laguna Hills; and numerous nieces and nephews. Fonda will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Assisted Home Hospice for the kind and loving care they gave Fonda.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13, 4pm until 8pm, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Services will also take place at Ted Mayr Funeral Home on Friday, June 14, 10 a.m., with The Reverend Jim Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura.
