Garda was born March 5, 1933, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania and came to Ventura, California with her mother in 1951. Garda went to work for the Department of Defense at Construction Battalion Center, Port Hueneme in 1951 and transferred to Point Mugu in 1953. She was married to Andrew Yanez in 1953, though they were divorced in 1974. She worked for the Department of Defense in Germany for three years and worked in Hawaii for three and a half years. The remainder of her career was spent at Point Mugu.
After Garda’s retirement from Point Mugu she became a member of the Board of Directors of Pacific Oaks Federal Credit Union. She also was very involved with her church, Trinity Lutheran of Ventura. She loved to travel and visited over 45 countries.
She is survived by her son Mark Yanez, his wife Terri; granddaughter, Staci; her daughter Drew Kaiser, and husband Jeff; her grandson Dusty; step granddaughter Amanda; step grandson, Alex. Garda was preceded in death by her grandson, Mark.
The family will have a public visitation on Friday, January 15, 2016, from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home located in Ventura, CA.
A Celebration of Garda’s Life will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016, 10:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church located at 196 North Ashwood Ave., Ventura, CA. Burial will follow immediately at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, located in Ventura, CA.
In lieu of flowers the, donations can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Endowment Fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
