Our amazing father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away November 3, 2012, just four months shy of his 100th birthday. Ed was born March 18, 1913 in Los Angeles and moved to Ventura when he was just four months old. He attended schools in Ventura, graduating from Ventura High School in 1931.
Ed always had a talent for working with anything mechanical and shortly after graduating from high school he went to work for Snow Electric. While working there, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Rowden. They were married 77 years when Elizabeth passed away in May of 2009. We know they have had a joyful reunion and will now be together forever. Soon after their wedding, Ed began his career with Pacific Telephone Company retiring in 1975 as a supervisor. Ed and Beth were members of the First Baptist Church/Coastline Bible Church for over 50 years.
Following retirement, Ed and Beth enjoyed traveling in their RV trailer through Canada, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Iowa, and various other states. They also had a wonderful time on their trip to Hawaii. Ed didn’t like to be idle and seemed to be able to fix almost anything. His sons could always count on him to help with their home projects and electrical problems.
Ed was extremely proud of his four grandsons. When they were young and into sports, he and Beth rarely missed their games. Ed enjoyed the years he spent with his amateur radio club and got very interested in working with computers. More than anything else, he loved taking them apart and getting them to work again.
Ed was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, and his sister, Violet. He is survived by his sons, Greg (Barbara) and Doug (Joann); grandsons, Jeff (Linda), Jason (Jennifer), Scott (Mary), and Matt (Andie); 11 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Valerie Rowden of Ojai; nieces, Cherri (John) Hennigan of Vacaville, CA, and Laurel (Allen) McLean of Rossmoor, CA; and nephew, Jan Rowden, Seattle, WA.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 16, 2012, 11:00 A.M., at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity.
