Howard Rogers Geer was born on February 25, 1948 in Las Vegas, Nevada and resided in Santa Paula, CA since the early 80’s. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Everett Geer and Violet Madelle Erxleben, and by his beloved dog, Killer.
In what was a well-lived and diverse life, Howard served in Vietnam for the United States Army, owned and operated Geer Insurance Agency, was a landlord for various apartment complexes, dabbled in the restaurant business with the Sidecar in Ventura, and was a member of the Screen Actors Guild with his most notable, albeit brief, appearance in 1997’s feature film of Leave it to Beaver, filmed in Santa Paula.
In his life, Howard found joy in riding motorcycles, buying and selling on eBay, seeing the world from a cruise ship, and watching performances at the Rubicon Theatre in Ventura. He loved iced tea, anything with chocolate, and Popeye’s Chicken. Ultimately, he was the most passionate about his work and employees, often spending six days a week in the office.
A self-described “giver,” Howard refused to let anyone else pay for a meal and often protested if the bill was swiftly paid by someone else, even on his birthday and Father’s Day. Unfailingly generous, he would drop everything to help someone in need, whether it was to fix a flat tire, offer a place to live, or spread a little happiness through the halls of St. John’s Hospital in Oxnard, where he liked to volunteer.
Deeply committed to his faith, Howard was dedicated to his spiritual growth and became an ordained minister, performing the marriage ceremonies of many friends. He was actively involved with Unity of Ventura, often stepping in as a platform assistant and delivering Sunday talks to fellow parishioners.
Mr. Geer is survived by his sons Jason and Sean (Bunnie), daughter Jessica, and five grandsons. He is also survived by his close friends Heidi Ralphs, Beth Ann Suggs, Nancy DeCandia, Helen Kronoff, Jan Hamm, and dog, Percy.
We ask that you please take a moment on February 25th, Howard’s birthday, to remember him by sharing stories and photos at www.forevermissed.com/howardgeer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of his generous spirit to his church, Unity of Ventura at unityofventura.org.
Finally, the family asks that you honor Howard’s memory by living your life as he did: completely in the present and marching to the beat of your own drum.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, CA 93003. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
