I have many memories of my time with Irv.
He worked with me almost 40 years ago in Philadelphia. A lot of that time we talked about sports. A lot of that time Irv talked about everything. He was pretty prolific. When he moved to California we stayed in touch.
I visited with him several times related to my work. He showed me California as only Irv could do. Through his "connections" he helped me in many ways with my work. He seemed to know everybody.
We both went to PSU, but my PSU was Plymouth State University. My PSU football was nothing like Irv's.
I was expecting to see him back in Philly soon. His memories will always be here with me. He was special.
I was a better person because of knowing and spending substantive time with Irv Walzer.

Even though I haven't seen Irv for decades, he was the only person out of our group from the Phi Ep house at Penn State who made the effort to stay in touch with everyone and even tried to organize a reunion of sorts built around a PSU football game in Pittsburgh a year or two ago. He was the then glue that kept us all in contact.
Irv was funny and sincere plus his own person. When I first met Irv 50+ years ago he was on some crazy diet and couldn't wait to tell me how it worked. When my parents came up to PSU to see what I was up to, they asked "are there any hippies here" and right on cue Irv just happened to appear and gave me a warm hello and "are these your parents?"
Even with me being in Miami and Irv in Santa Barbra he still keep in touch because that was how he was. Irv will be missed by myself and his former fraternity brothers. This is our "Big Chill" moment I think.
