Irv graduated from New York University Dental School and practiced dentistry in Rochester, New York, for forty-five years. He served in the United States Army Reserve Dental Corp, retiring as Major.
In 1982, Irv was preceded in death by his first wife of forty years, Jane Lafferty Arem. In 1986 Irv married Margueritte Moritz and moved to Ventura.
Irv had always been active in sports, having run track in college. He enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, tennis, and had traveled internationally. He was an avid bridge player in American Contract Bridge League for many years and had also participated with his children in the Boy Scouts of America. He and his wife Margie attended Ventura Missionary Church.
Irv had been an active member in the Rotary Club of Ventura for the past twenty five years.
He is survived by his wife Margueritte “Margie” Arem of Ventura; son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Gail Arem of Ventura; sons, Christopher Arem of Rochester, New York, and Timothy “T-Bone” Arem of Ashville, North Carolina; grandsons, Andrew Arem and fiance Erica Wilson and Zachary Arem, and his wife Stephanie; brother, Jonas Arem of Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Murray Kass.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2013, 4 p.m., at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, with The Reverend Gary Archer officiating
