Jim and I worked together in the Assessor's office and he was my go to person so many times through the years. He always listened and gave a thoughtful well researched response. I will always remember and appreciate that about Jim. But what I really enjoyed the most was Jim's wonderful sense of humor and contagious laughter. No matter what was going on Jim was able to bring it around with a good joke that made it all better. We did a lot of laughing and I miss that. Jim was a true gem to work with and very much a gentleman. I can't imagine how he will be missed. To Debbie and all of Jim's family, I am so sorry for your loss.

For the past 20 years or so I would see Jim in my neighborhood on his way to Von’s or just walking the dog. It made my part of town feel more neighborly. I will miss that. When I was in the Assessor’s office Jim was in charge of the Standards Division where his legal education was valuable. More valuable to me was his emphasis on accuracy and fairness rather than argumentativeness or legalese. I was not always comfortable nor calm when I presented Assessment Appeals cases. Jim was. Even when I lost a case. I will miss too the updates from Jim about his family and the many, many foster kids he and Debby brought into their home. His conversations with me about community and church helped me move away from argument toward understanding. The sidewalks in our neighborhood will be sad from his absence.

I am truly saddened to hear of the passing of Jim. He was such a man of integrity. He had a loving soul and heart. He was always willing to help and to nurture. I met Jim working in the Assessor's office many years ago. We became team mates in Assessment Appeal processing and spent many hours consulting with one another. He was a supportive rock for me whenever he was needed.
He loved his family with all his heart and was so very proud of all of them. He was gracious, kind and giving. My heart goes out to Debbie and family. Rest in peace Jim. You will truly, truly be missed. I am privileged to have called you my friend and co-worker.

Jim was, to his core, a genuinely nice, good, caring man. A great counselor, careful listener. Not an ounce of pretense. Jim would always take the time to thoroughly answer a question or give advice. And what a terrific sense of humor and contagious, no-holds-barred laugh! I worked with Jim in the Appeals section of the Assessor's Office in the early 90's, and it was always good to have Jim in our corner. My deep condolences to Debbie and all of Jim's family members.

Jim was just one of those really good people you are lucky to meet in life. He would have gotten my MR. GOOD GUY vote every year if there was a vote for it. Back in the day, long long ago, Jim, me, and a load of Assessor's employees use to have a lot of fun together - thank goodness he met the love of his life and settled down for good! He was a happily married man!! I'm saddened at the loss of Jim because he'd always greet you with a smile and a handshake and brighten the day up! So long my friend.

I knew Jim through our work together at the County of Ventura.

He was unique as a man of intelligence, integrity and caring. His contributions to the County of Ventura were exemplary, and his humor and good nature brought joy and laughter to so many of his co-workers. Jim valued his family above all else in my talks with him. He modeled generosity of heart and spirit, which was a gift to witness. I can only imagine what life would be like if we had more like Jim.

Blessings and peace to Jim, and to his beloved family. Susan O'
