

Jim was born to Otto and Lyla Tonius May 17, 1929, in Kenosha Wisconsin, grew up in Duluth, Minnesota where he graduated from Denfeld High School and from the University of Minnesota. Jim served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War where he completed a one-year course in Russian Language at Syracuse University, New York, in preparation for translating and deciphering Russian communications as a member of the 26th Radio Squad.
Jim moved to California in 1959 and worked in commercial finance for more than 30 years. After moving to Ventura in 1983, he became a Real Estate Broker and was one of the founders of Pacific Rim Realtors of Oxnard, California, before retiring in 2006.
Jim was an avid coin collector and took great joy in sharing his collection with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 35 years, Margaret; daughter, Nicolette of Newbury Park, CA; son, Michael and daughter-in-law Susan of Atlanta, GA; son, Mark and daughter-in-law Michelle of Atascadero, CA; brother, Terry of Newbury Park, CA; and his five grandchildren, Kyler, Collin, Mya, Conner, and Parker, who were the light of his life.
A celebration of Jim’s Life will be held on Friday, September 8th, 2017, 1:00 P.M., at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road in Ventura.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
