Jean Prescott Gibson, 88, of Tarzara, California, died Friday, August 8, 2014 in Ventura, California, following a lengthy illness. Jean was born April 8, 1926 in Fresno, California to George Robert Kendall and Fern Kendall (Gordon). At age 20, she married Eugene Kendrick Gibson, also from Fresno. Together they had three sons, Gary, Jeffrey (Scott), and Robert.
In 1959, the family settled in Tarzana, California. Jean remained a resident of Tarzana from that time until 2003, when her illness required that she move to Ventura, California to be closer to her son, Scott.
Jean was a stay-at-home mom for most of her life; however, she did own and operate an art studio, "Art League of Los Angeles," for many years. Jean was an accomplished artist who enjoyed creating works and also encouraging others to do so. When her sons were young, she participated in PTA. Jean and her husband enjoyed travel, and the two took memorable trips to Europe. The family also traveled often to Meadow Lakes in the Sierra Mountains for camping. Prior to her decline in health, Jean enjoyed working in the garden.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband and oldest son, Gary. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Leslie Gibson; and son, Robert Gibson.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jean's caretakers at the Ocean View Cottage elderly care facility and hospice nurse "Maggie."
Services will be private.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
