Jessica Rae Velasco, the daughter of Raymond Velasco and Judy Atwood, was born into this world January 3, 1984, in Ventura, California and entered into eternal life to be with our Lord on August 10, 2017.
Jessica was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Lois Coburn, maternal step grandfather, Pete Coburn, paternal grandfather, Richard L. Velasco, maternal great grandparents, John and Maxine Lunstrum, paternal great grandfather, Leonard Real, paternal step great grandfather, Tony Marsh and Brandi Marie Velasco paternal cousin that died at birth.
She is survived by her parents; brother, Jacob Olson (Michelle); beloved children, Haili, 14, Ivy, 9 and Abigail, 3 years old; and paternal grandmother, Gloria Velasco. Jessica further leaves behind her paternal great grandmother, Vee Marsh and paternal step great grandmother, Dominga Real. She is also survived by her uncles, Jerry Hatfield, Brian Hatfield, Robert Hatfield (Lupe), Ronald Velasco (Kathleen), Randal Velasco (Valentina) and Richard V. Velasco (Sandy); aunts, Cynthia Whelan, and Lisa Mobley (Glenn). Jessica also leaves behind six great aunts, three great uncles, numerous cousins including her favorite cousin Matthew Velasco, her beloved nieces, Paige and Mady Olson, and numerous friends.
Jessica’s love for her children was beyond measure, she was gentle and loving, yet as protective and ferocious as a mother tiger when it came to her children's wellbeing. Jessica could be seen patiently teaching her children how to read, speak Spanish, taught them sign language, taught her youngest child how to baby sign before she could talk. She loved to sing with her children while driving, was a great organizer and loved family gatherings. Jessica's favorite holiday was Halloween and would make costumes for herself and the children and looked forward to going Trick or Treating with them. She was a fantastic cook, her potato salad was out of this world. Jessica was amazingly creative in everything she did. Jessica had a mercurial zest for life, her laughter was joyous and infectious. She loved people from all walks of life. Jessica was very proud of her historical lineage through her paternal grandmother's side of her family as she is a direct descendant to Lt. Jose Joaquin Moraga, who came with the Juan Bautista de Anza Expedition to California in 1776. Lt. Moraga was one of the great explorers of California.
Jessica’s thirst for knowledge was unquenchable, she went back to school after the birth of her first child and graduated from Ventura Junior College with honors and went on to attend Pepperdine University. Although Jessica was busy raising three young daughters and taking care of a household, she managed to be recognized as a conferred member of the Phi Alpha Theta honor society and recognized as a Randall Internship Scholar in the law firm of Enestein and Ribakoff in Santa Monica, California. Having earned her Bachelor's degree, Jessica was working towards a Master's and Doctorate degree in law.
Jessica's love for our Heavenly Father and her family was immeasurable. Although Jessica's passing has left a huge hole in our hearts, we find comfort in our Lord's promise when he told us "That whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life". When our Father awakens Jessica from her slumber what a joyous reunion awaits her. We find peace and comfort knowing that someday we will see our Jessica again. ‘For now our sweet angel have a restful sleep in our Creator's arms for your journey in this life has been completed, your joyful eternal life is awaiting you when you waken from your slumber '.
A Celebration of Life service for Jessica will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, 2:00 p.m., at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura, CA 93003. A private cremation service was already done.
