John “Johnny” Hay passed away, Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the age of 90. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Catherine, of 63 years and his family. Johnny was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on March 9, 1924, to John and Isabella Hay. They immigrated to the United States, when he was a young boy of five years. He grew up in the Los Angeles area where he met his wife, Catherine, at Title Insurance and Trust Company. John enjoyed playing his harmonica for his sweetheart; he also enjoyed hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains routinely, and watching his favorite cowboy shows and game shows.
After working many years at TI, he and his friend, Dick Quarto, started their own Real Estate Tax Service which brought them both much happiness and joy watching the company grow. “LERETA” was formed and John loved and respected all who knew him.
John and Catherine retired and moved to Ventura in 2004. They came to love the beach life and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; daughter, Suzanne (Pat) O’Toole; son, Gordon Hay; and daughter Laura
(Joe) Foster; his seven grandchildren, Sean, Michael, and Casey (Bree) O’Toole, Bryan (Erryn), Scott (Sarah), Joe (Heather), and Jessica Foster. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, on Monday, April 14, 2014, at 10:30 A.M. A reception will follow at the O’Toole home.
