OBITUARY
June E. Pence
June 11, 1921 – June 8, 2013
June Elizabeth Pence died June 9, 2013 at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. She was born June 11, 1921 in Seattle, Washington. June attended Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington and the University of Washington in Seattle. At the University of Washington, she was a member of the Gamma Delta Sorority and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics. June married John Pence, her college sweetheart, on August 10, 1946 after he was discharged from the Army in World War II. June and John spent 59 years of loving marriage moving from Longview, Washington, to Walnut Creek, California to White Bear Lake, Minnesota and finally to Ventura, California in 1962 where they spent their remaining years. June and John had two children, Jack and Jone, to whom June devoted much of her love and devotion. It was John, her husband, however, who she loved dearly and missed every day since his passing in 2006. Although June was the perfect wife and mother, she made time over the years to participate in numerous community organizations. Her involvement included, Rotary Anns, P.E.O. Chapter MC, Ventura Assistance League, Ventura Yacht Club, Swedish Club, and the Ventura Stamp Club. June will always be remembered for her abundant energy and love for her friends and her family. June, also, was a prolific gardener growing beautiful flowers wherever she was. Since John’s passing, June resided with her daughter, Jone, in Ventura who soon became her best friend and caregiver. June loved hearing the latest news of her grandsons, Garrett, Evan, and Clayton, and her great grandchildren, Andy, Sullivan, and Camelia, who all live nearby in Los Angeles and San Diego Counties. June is survived by her two children, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, as well as her brother, John Larson of Alamo, California, and her sister, Phyllis Cleveland of Seattle, Washington. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 1:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 196 North Ashwood, Ventura, CA In lieu of flowers, friends may send donations in June’s memory to PEO Continuing Education or STAR Scholars, PEO, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312 Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.

Jone,
You were the best daughter June could ever have dreamed of caring for her as you always did. Your Mom's lemon bars were the best in the world. Just one of many sweet things she brought to this world. My arms are around you, dear friend. Mary

Dear Joni,
June was such a bright being. The picture of her here sitting on the ground gardening at your home, was the last time I actually saw her, and spoke with her. Look at her! She expresses such happiness in this photo, and she was, that day. She was always a delight and so willing to listen. She loved you so. You, dear Joni have been a caring, loving and, an extraordinary daughter. She was blessed to have you in her life and, she will be missed.

June and John were my high school best friends parents. Jack and I surfed together during our high school years and June was simply the nicest mom anyone could have. I'll always remember her beaming smile and such a positive attitude. The Pence family were such class acts and lived in an enviable location atop Breaker Dr. Some of the greatest times in our lives. June had such a broad base of fans. Jone and Jack are so fortunate to have a lifetime of treasured memories with such great parents. I'll certainly miss June, a very rare lady.

June lived just up our hill. Always sunny and bright, she had a craftwork going any time of day. I still love and use my English rose potholder she made for me. She was a seamstress, a gardener, a cook, a mom, a guide and a fun neighbor. Not afraid to experiment, she explored adventures with her family and took care of the beloved dogs they all enjoy. Her children are some of our most confident and creative friends to this day. We will miss you June; your cookies, your crafts, and your appreciation of our little community on the hill. The Bentons

I fondly remember June and John at many functions we attended together for the Ventura Rotary Club events. They were truly a fun couple, with John singing his Sigma Chi songs and June just putting up with him doing so. Things just aren't the same without them both. Peter

We will always fondly remember both John and June, who lived at the top of "our hill". They always had a ready smile for all of us! June was always so gracious, and we still enjoy our homemade potholders. She always kept track of our family. We will miss ou, but know that you are both together again. Blessings, Christine (Haar) & Robert Cendejas
