Lauren was born October 14, 1923, on a farm in Protection, Kansas. He loved to share how he rode a horse to school. The day after graduating from Wichita High School North, Lauren enlisted in the Marine Corps and was a crew chief in the Pacific during World War II. Participating in World War II profoundly changed his life. Lauren was very proud of his experience in the Marine Corps. As with many of that generation, he never returned to the farm but relocated to California where he met Ann Johnston who would become his wife. After settling in Pomona, Lauren was hired by Southern California Edison and remained with the company until his retirement. In 1964, Ann and Lauren moved to Ventura with their two children and a collection of pets. After settling in Ventura, Lauren and Ann dedicated their lives to their family and community. Lauren loved his years of coaching VYBA and Foothill Little League, as well as his years as PTA president and booster club president at his children’s schools. When he retired he enjoyed volunteering at the police storefronts, Livingston Hospice Care and Community Memorial Hospital. Lauren spent hours working in his garden and collecting stamps and coins. He loved to reminisce about numerous summer vacations at Laguna Beach.
Lauren was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Alexander, in 1996. They enjoyed many years together raising a family and traveling extensively before her death.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Brug of Ventura; her children, Alex Brug and wife Jacqueline Carloni of Dallas, Lauren Hall and husband Adam of Atlanta; and Lauren’s 5-month-old great-grandson that carries his name, Charles Alexander Hall. He is also survived by his son, Bill Alexander and wife Linda DeLuca of Vancouver B.C.; and their child, Ethan Alexander.
The family would like to thank his long-time companion, Kathy Schultz, for her devotion. Finally, the family would also like to thank Lauren’s physician, Dr. U. Castel for her encouragement and care and a special thanks to the 4th floor staff at Community Memorial Hospital for their kindness.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 10th, 2015, 2:00 P.M., at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Santa Paula.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army, Wounded Warrior Project, and Friends of the Library or Ventura County Historical Society would be appreciated.
