Lucille Barker

Lucille went to public school in Ste. Rose. She spent most of her teen years in Ste. Rose and at the age of twenty, moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she met and married Steve Barker (Borotsik) from Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. They lived in Winnipeg, Canada. Lucille and Steve had two sons, Kenneth Foster and Melvyn Darcy. In 1956, they decided they had had enough of the cold winters in Canada and decided to move to Los Angeles, California, where they made their home for nineteen years. Lucille worked at St. Vincent hospital for five years as a nurse’s aide. Steve worked for S.A. lines for ten years. Both boys were educated and went to college in Los Angeles.

In 1975, Steve and Lucille moved to Ventura, California. Lucille worked at Community Memorial Hospital for 15 years, where she made many friends. Steve worked at Point Mugu as a purchasing agent. In 1978, Steve passed away suddenly of a heart attack. Their son, Melvyn, passed away in 1989 of cancer. Their son, Kenneth, passed away in 2012 of cancer. Soon after, Lucille moved to Paso Robles to be closer to family.

Lucille’s hobbies included cooking, collecting recipes, and watching wrestling on television.

She leaves behind two daughters-in-law, Haidee and Joanne. In addition, she leaves three grandsons, Larry, Nathan and Mel (wife, Heather); two granddaughters, Adell (husband, Cory) and Nicole (husband, Julian); and her great-grandchildren, Brianna, Mariah, Melvyn, Hannah and Hayley.

Lucille’s rosary service (prayers) will be held Monday, November 27, at 10am, followed by a celebration of her life at 10:30am, at Sacred Heart Church, 10800 Henderson Road, Ventura, California 93004. The graveside service will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, California 93003. Pallbearers, Larry Barker, Nathan Barker, Mel Barker, Joshua Carey, Arnold Lerma, Cory Hancsarik, Robert Vega and Clint Harp.
