

Born in December of 1928 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Mabel was a 54-year resident of Ventura.
She met her late husband John McVittie through Intervarsity Christian Fellowship while they were both attending McGill University. She graduated from McGill in 1951 with a degree in Chemistry.
Mabel and John were married June 9, 1951. In 1954 they immigrated to Glendale, California where John was employed with a general building contractor. While in Glendale, their children Ellie and Thom were born. John and Mabel were active in Glendale Presbyterian Church.
In 1960 Mabel and John moved to Ventura and in 1963 founded McGall Constructors with Mabel as office manager and John as principle estimator. McGall built many buildings in Ventura County including several at the Ventura Marina.
Beginning in 1964 Mabel and John became active in Ventura Missionary Church serving in many different capacities through the years.
Mabel enjoyed weekly game nights, meals and Bible study with friends. She was a reader, a lover of beachcombing and traveling, and had a gift for knitting.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband John and is survived by son Thom McVittie of Sierra Madre and daughter and son-in-law Ellie and Gerry Fisher of Irvine and grandchildren Elizabeth (Werner) Girard, Katelynn (Dustin) Guenther, Douglas Fisher, Marjorie Fisher and John Fisher and great-grandchildren Rand, Eleanor, and Daisy Girard, and Elijah and Josiah Guenther. She also leaves many dear friends, with some friendships going back close to 50 years and others from the Townehouse of less than a year.
A time of celebration of the life of Mabel McVittie will be held at Ventura Missionary Church on Monday June 30, at 1:00 PM. This service is preceded by a private burial at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
