Marjorie (Davis) Green was born August 7, 1923 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Murray and Sabra Davis. She joined her brother Murray and was followed by her sister Helen. Marjorie's family moved to Columbus, Kansas, where in high school she met and later married her husband of 54 years, Maurice Green. She and Maurice spent their life together raising five energetic children, taking them on long holiday camping trips, visiting relatives across the country, actively engaging in church, their community, and in building many friendships for a lifetime.
Marjorie was a teacher to scores of kids, helping them through the basics of reading, grammar, and writing, but more importantly, enabling her students to find joy in the experience of learning. Even when her active teaching days were over, she encouraged her grandchildren--through bribes, threats, and rewards--to take their education seriously and earn good grades.
Marjorie loved to travel. She and Maurice gallivanted around the world, visiting exotic locales on most of the continents, taking regular advantage of their military privilege as retirees to fly on US Air Force planes for free on a "Space Available" basis. They included their youngest sons and granddaughter on some of these trips, exposing them to the joys of other cultures and the beautiful places this world has to offer. In this, Marjorie bequeathed her itchy feet to her well-traveled children, even into the grand generation of world wanderers.
Marjorie was a woman of abiding faith in Jesus Christ her Savior and Lord. Her life was centered on Him through active involvement in the local church, Bible reading and prayer, and generous lifetime support for many missionaries and the causes of Christ's Kingdom. She made it a highlight of her many overseas trips to make personal visits to missionaries in their places of ministry. Marjorie stayed in regular contact with many missionaries throughout her life.
Marjorie was Mother to five children: Dale, Patricia, Donna, Michael, and Russell. She was Grandmother to nine: Keri, Brian, Lauren, Jessica, Joshua, Kirsten, Ashley, Bernard, and Jenna. She was Great Grandmother to five: Ryan, Nathan, Daniel, Samuel, and one on the way. Her gentle touch and patient love will be missed by all.
Marjorie died peacefully on July 28, 2014, just shy of her 91st birthday. She is now free to enjoy the eternal life Jesus has made possible to all who believe in Him as they walk this earth.
A public memorial service for Marjorie will be held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura on Saturday, August 23rd at 11:00, Pastor Leonard DeWitt officiating.
Arrangements under the direction of Charles Carroll Funeral Home, Ventura, CA.
