From 1949 to 1981, he had a private pediatric practice in Ventura. He loved to travel and he was a long-time member of the Ventura Missionary Church. An avid golfer since 1951, Martin participated in and won many tournaments. He has shot 4 holes in 1, several Eagles, and his age twice; the last time when he was 72. He played up until January of this year. He was 92 years old.

Martin was a kind, soft-spoken man, with a dry sense of humor. A devoted husband, father, and friend, he will be dearly missed.

Maralyn, I am sending prayers your way every day! I admire the strength I see in you. I didn't know Marty well, but feel I did, because he was always the topic of conversation. He will rest peacefully now and when you pick up a penny, it will be his penny from Heaven to let you know he is okay. Hugs and Kisses, Pat Lamont

Dearest Dr. Barnes,
I know you are seated next to our Lord Jesus Christ as I always said you had a special seat in Heaven. I also know my beautiful mother was waiting for you with a deck of Skip-Bo cards ready to pick up the last game you played here on earth together.
You were one of the last true gentleman and I will always remember your gentle and kind smile that could warm the heart of anyone.
Dane and I want to thank you for all the times you were there for him from birth to his first Holy Communion and beyond. You were my dads best friend and you and Marlyn were like family to us for over 40 years.
Our community lost not only a true gentleman, scholar and practitioner but also a friend to all.

With love and respect,
Cindy Hartman and family
