Mary Irene Sears, of Ventura, died December 6, 2011, following a brief illness. Mary was born in Minersville, Pennsylvania. She was a resident of Ventura for 48 years coming from Santa Maria. Mary had worked in various jobs as a youth and during World War II she worked in an ammunition factory. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and loved going to their festivals, and playing Bingo. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. Before husband Bud passed away they enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas. Mom had the best sense of humor and passed her love on to everyone.
Mary is survived by her sons, Neal Sears of Palm Springs and Ron Sears of Ventura; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dennis Hollowed of Santa Paula, sister Nell Hughes of Ventura; grandchildren David and Jeff of Texas, Richard and wife Yvette of Santa Monica, Michael and Nicole of Montana, Candice Wright and husband Robert of Sherman Oaks, Chadd Hollowed of Washington, D.C.; great-grandchildren, Sierra, Sofia, Luke and Stella. Mary was preceded in death by her son Gary, in 1968 and her beloved husband, Bud, in 1988. Bud and Mary were married for forty-six years.
Mom was aware that she was dying. We had already picked names for Christmas and she wanted to make sure Chadd had a gift even though she knew she wouldn’t be here with us. Mom will always be in our hearts.
Private graveside services have been held at Ivy lawn Memorial Park, Ventura, with Pastor Ron Dybvig officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com
