

She was raised in the City of Ventura and attended Ventura High School. After graduating from high school Nancy was hired by Pacific Bell/AT&T, where she worked for 34 years until retirement in 2006. Her career at AT&T included jobs as a Staff Associate, District Office Supervisor and as a Systems Manager for a number of telephone switching offices in the Ventura County and 805 area. Nancy’s career spanned a trying time in telecommunication history with employee downsizing and the conversion to full digital technology. She also committed much of her time to the AT&T customer advocacy program ‘ERIC’.
After retirement from AT&T Nancy became a partner in a Sailboat and learned to sail at the Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center City of Ventura. The Sailing Center became the focus of Nancy’s retirement life and Nancy went on to become one of the City of Ventura’s Sailing Staff at Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center. Nancy earned Sailing Instructor certifications from U.S. Sailing and the American Sailing Association.
For 12 years Nancy contributed as a Sailing Instructor for Small Boat Sailing, Women’s Sailing as well as Sailing Camp and administrative duties. Someone once said Nancy must have loved being at the Sailing Center because she always had a smile on her face when she was there. And who could forget Nancy’s homemade strawberry shortcake on the last day of sailing camp.
Nancy loved the outdoors, travel, and camping. Many of Nancy’s travel adventures also included shipboard cruses to foreign locations. Nancy also enjoyed snorkeling, skiing, and horseback riding. Nancy loved the Beach life and resided within a block or two of the ocean for the past 40 years.
For the majority of her years Nancy lived in City of Ventura. The last 17 years of her life Nancy resided at Mandalay Shores in the City of Oxnard.
Nancy’s kind, caring and compassionate spirit are deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Nancy leaves behind her very special friends Johnnie and Dan Goen, Linda Kornetka and Dave Bowen her partner of 20 years. Nancy’s Step Mother Marilyn King, her Nieces Nicole and Erica her Brother Michael and Sister in-law Ann, their children and family and all those at the Leo Robbins Sailing Center.
At daybreak on October 5, 2016 Nancy’s ashes were scattered on the ocean by her close friends at the place she loved.
A Celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, 3:00 P.M., at the Ted Mayr Funeral home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, CA.
