Patricia "Pat" Ruth Johnson

Pat was born on March 25, 1931 in Los Angeles to Millard and Ruth Whitson, and passed away on December 19, 2019, in Ojai. She met the love of her life, Ray Johnson, while attending Pepperdine University. Pat was a loving mother to her three children and was dedicated to making a happy home for her family. She and the family lived in Garden Grove for many years until retiring to Ojai, CA.

Pat loved children and dedicated her professional life to early childhood education. She was a teacher, and then director, at Garden Grove United Methodist Nursery School. She lit up any time she saw kids, especially the little ones. Her granddaughters were the absolute light of her life. She loved animals, baseball, and college sports. Pat was a quilter, active in quilting groups in Garden Grove and later in Ojai. She was active in the United Methodist Church in both Garden Grove and Ojai, and enjoyed the many friends she made at church. She loved the outdoors and nature, particularly beautiful clouds. Family camping trips were a favorite, and she was a gardener, growing the most beautiful roses.

Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ray, and is survived by daughter Margie Ota (Marvin), son Doug (Tamara Hertz), daughter Janet, and granddaughters Katie Ota (Jon Mikel Rodriguez), Christine Ota, and Emma Hertz.

A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2020, 2:00 p.m., at the Ojai United Methodist Church, 120 Church Road, Ojai.

The family has request, memorial contributions be made in Pat’s name to the Ojai United Methodist Church OR to Help of Ojai.
