Pauline, known as Peggy, was born November 15, 1914 to Nettie Cook Clark and John Theodore Clark in Fresno, CA. She passed on to meet the Lord July 23, 2012, she was 97. She lived in Ventura County since 1933 and, since 2008, she has been a resident of Alma Via Residential Care in Camarillo.
Peggy attended grammar and high schools in Chowchilla. Peggy married J. Gould Taylor on January 7, 1933. For a part of their first year of marriage they lived in San Francisco while Gould played AAA baseball for the San Francisco Seals. Their marriage lasted 57 years with many sentimental summer days spent at Rincon Beach with their five children. Throughout her life, singing in the church choir, writing lyrics and music for hymns and journaling brought Peggy much joy. Together, it is estimated that Gould and Peggy’s volunteer efforts resulted in over 15,000 hours at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church (now Bible Church) as deacon and deaconess, youth counselors and Sunday school teachers. Peggy was also a co-leader of the first Girl Scout troop #65, a volunteer at St John’s/Pleasant Valley Hospital, and at numerous school functions.
Peggy began her work career with Pleasant Valley School District in Camarillo in September 1954. She held positions of increasing responsibility until her retirement in June 1983 from Dos Caminos School, to care for Gould before he passed on in 1989. To the day of her death, Peggy reminisced about the teachers, the children and their children she came to know through her work and church activities.
Two years after Gould’s death, Peggy re-met Roy Forrest at a Chowchilla High School reunion, and they married in 1992. Peggy returned to Camarillo after Roy’s death and continued her role as matriarch of the extended Taylor family.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, her brother Jack Morrison Clark and her sister Frances Ann Clark-Daggett.
Gould and Peggy’s children are: Peggy Ann Taylor-Viser (Edmund), Jack Taylor (Donna Lee), Ruth Taylor Kilday, Sharon Taylor Hosier and Nancy Taylor Pence (Robert); grandchildren: Kelley Taylor Goodwin (Tim), Rod Taylor, David Hosier (Robin), Andrew Hosier, Amy Viser, Michael Viser (Carrie), Jennifer Proffitt (Randy)and Stephanie Bush (Ron); great grandchildren: Tim Goodwin Jr. (Lauren), Kristie Goodwin Gillispie (Donnie), Amanda and Nathan Viser, Bailey and Kaelynn Hosier, Gabriel and MacKenzie Proffitt, and Josiah and Daniel Bush; great-great grandchildren: Raif Lawrence, Jack Gillispie, and newborn Rowan Goodwin.
