Pearl Esther (Thomsen) Ulreich, 81, of Ventura, passed away peacefully at home Thursday February 10, 2011, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Pearl was born in Ventura on December 21, 1929, and was a lifelong resident. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ventura.
Pearl was a homemaker after retiring from the Ventura Unified School District with over 20 years of service as cashier and teacher assistant for Sheridan Way Elementary School. As a homemaker, she was an avid crafter and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and needlework. She especially enjoyed making little ornaments for her special friends at Christmastime. Pearl also enjoyed trips to Laughlin with her husband, Ron, prior to his death; in recent years, she looked forward to monthly bingo trips to the Chumash Casino with her sister-in-law and nieces. Pearl also enjoyed time in her garden, baking goodies, making puzzles, spending time with family and playing dominos at family get-togethers.
Pearl was preceded in death by Ron, her husband of 53 years; parents, Martin and Lillian Thomsen; brother, Arthur Thomsen; son-in law, James Pike; and grandson, Bryon Pike.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Sheryl Pike; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dan Frost; grandchildren, Jeff Pike, and his wife, Ariana, David Pike, Robyn Woodworth, and her husband, Brian “Woody,” all of Ventura, and Rebecca Hawkins, and her husband, Michael, of San Antonio, Tex., great-grandsons, Christopher and Andrew Pike, Kody, Tyler, Joshua and Trevor Woodworth, all of Ventura, and Nathan and Devon Hawkins, of San Antonio; sister-in-law, Faith Thomsen; and nieces, Nancy Thomsen and Sally Doyle, of Ventura; as well as extend family and many close friends.
The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the many friends that stayed close and supported mom after dad’s passing four years ago. It brightened her days immensely.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to doctors Lynn Kong, M.D. and Robert Garrison, M.D. along with their staff and the staff of Grossman Imaging Center for the kind and compassionate care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Pearl’s name to the American Cancer Society.
In respect of Pearl’s adamant wishes, no service will be held. Her remains will rest at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura, alongside her husband, Ron, and parents, Martin and Lillian Thomsen.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura. Condolences may be made at www.tedmayrfuneralhome.com.
