Robert (Bob) Marshall passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015, in Ventura, California. He was born June 1929 in Santa Barbara, California, to Olin and Leah Marshall and was a resident of Ventura County most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 50 years, Jean, his second wife of 10 years, Cleo, and his brother-in-law, Leroy DeMeulenaere.
Bob is survived by his sons, Steve and wife Laura of Oxnard, Dave and wife Kerri of Rancho Murieta; as well as his grandchildren, Scott, Keira, Justin and Cory. Additional family members are his brothers and their wives Jack and Frances Marshall of Ventura, and their daughter Dina, Gary and Charlotte Marshall of Orlando, Florida and his children Kim and Gary; his sister-in-law RaVae DeMeulenaere and daughter Jeanne residing in Silverdale, Washington.
Bob proudly served four years in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his discharge, he completed his college education in 1957. Bob was employed by the Internal Revenue Service. At the time of his retirement, in 1984, he was a Senior Revenue Officer. After retirement, he worked part-time as both an IRS Enrolled Agent and as a background investigator for the U.S. Government.
Dad was active with the Tri-County California Unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International, Inc. (an Airstream travel club) beginning in 1970. He served a term in 1975 as President of the local Unit. Bob and his wife Jean enjoyed their 30+ years of traveling around the country. They both held positions as rally committee chairmen.
After the passing of his first wife, he again was bitten by the travel bug. He and his second wife, Cleo continued to explore the States in their Airstream trailer. Occasionally, when they decided not to "tour by trailer", they could be found cruising the high seas, exploring various parts of the world.
Dad enjoyed numerous hobbies throughout his adult life. He was an Amateur Radio "ham" operator for more than 50 years, holding an Advanced Class license. He was an accomplished silversmith, who enjoyed making rings, pendants, and other jewelry pieces for his family and friends. He later took up woodcarving, creating several items to showcase his talents. Dad also enjoyed playing card games of all types. He loved playing Pitch with Jean's family in Iowa! He was an avid Bridge player too. He and Cleo would often play Bridge several times a week when they were home.
Dad will be missed by all as he moves to his final destination. The immediate family would like to thank everyone for the love and support they have shown, especially the last few months. The family also thanks the Assisted Hospice professionals and Assisted Healthcare Services staff for their valuable support provided during the last six months.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, 10 am, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Interment at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park will immediately follow this service, next to his wife Jean Marshall.
