
Dr. Hopkins, Consulting Psychologist and Educator, died on Dec. 21, 2010 in Ventura., California. He was 96 years old. He was born in West Summerville, Mass on May 31, 1914. He was a graduate of Columbia University where he achieved an A.B., M.A. and Ed.D. He was a member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the American Psychology Association, and the American Counseling Association. He was also a member of Phi Gamma Delta, the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, and International Rotary through which he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow.
Prior to moving to California, Dr. Hopkins lived in retirement in Naples, Fla. where he was active in professional and civic affairs. In recent years, he wrote and lectured on the "Psychology of Aging". Since 1994 Dr. Hopkins has resided in Ventura County, living at The Gables in Ojai, The Ventura Townhouse and most recently at the Venturan.
Dr. Hopkins was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Wood Hopkins. He now leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth Jackson Hopkins; his daughter, The Reverend Diana Wood Hopkins of Ventura; 5 grandchildren: Christopher H. Bond, Jonathan W. Bond, Shaun M. Stanfill, Jacqueline Stanfill Olsen and Natasha Stanfill Bullotta; and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family is very grateful for the caring staff of The Venturan these last few years and the special attention given by his stepdaughter, Laura Swenson.
At a later date, a graveside service will be held at Oakridge Cemetery in Southbridge, Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Church of the Foothills, 6279 Foothill Rd., Ventura 93003.
