Rose Olivas

Rose “Toty” Teresa Olivas, age 69, passed away at her son’s home in Bakersfield on Thursday, October 20, 2011 after a valiant, courageous battle with a lengthy illness. She was born in Durango, Argentina on March 12, 1942 and came to the United States when she was 16 years old and at 17 years old she met the man she would marry and live with for the rest of their lives, David Olivas, Sr.

She and her late husband David moved to Ventura in 1966 and had one son, David Olivas, Jr. in 1970. In 1978 she and David began a successful business, Rose’s Food Concessions, and traveled the state in the County and State Fair circuit. Rose was honored with many awards and asked to speak on behalf of successful women in business.

Rose loved to entertain, cook and travel. Her family was very important to her and it was apparent with the love she exuded with her son, David Olivas, Jr. and granddaughters, Kayla, 15 and Madison, 12. She is also survived by her sister, Esther Noguera, of Phoenix AZ, brother, Michael Noguera and sister-in-law, Patti of Ventura; Nephews, Dean Kiel, of Fountain Hills, AZ; Steve Noguera, Panama City, Panama; Nieces, Michelle Kiel, of Ventura; Christine Hibbert, Gilbert, AZ, Sylvia Kivitt, of Chandler, AZ, Celeste Noguera Corbin, of Simi Valley, Natalie Noguera Dover of Redding, Denise Noguera, of Fullerton and many extended family and close friends. She will be dearly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Olivas; parents, Teresa and Jose Noguera and nephews, Ernest Kivitt and Ivan Gonzalez.

There will a vigil 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 27 at Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Dr., Ventura. 642-8134 with a funeral mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 28 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 10800 Henderson Rd., Ventura. Interment will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
