Ruth married her high school sweetheart, William Ellis, in 1936 and lived in Wyandotte, Michigan for most of the next 24 years. Both enjoyed and were very active in the First Methodist Church, camping, and supporting their children (Tonya Dee, Terry Keith, and Pamela Ruth) in their in interests in music, scouting, and sports. Ruth also loved her dogs.
In 1960 the family moved to California and by
1963 had settled in Ventura. Ruth loved to garden and always kept an immaculate home for her
Family. For 6 years she was a secretary at Ventura JC and then took the leap she had dreamed of for years - buying and operating her own women's dress shop. Over the next 23 years
Ruth became well known throughout the county for her exceptional service, quality and selection while offering ladies beautiful fashions at the "Ladibug" in Camarillo.
Ruth also loved to travel and made visits to Europe, China, Hawaii, Alaska, British Columbia, and saw most of the lower 48. In her 50+ years in Ventura County she was active in the Buena Ventura Women's Club, and the Soroptomist Club of Camarillo.
As a faithful member of her church (Ventura's First Christian) Ruth sang in the choir and helped with social events. She loved the Holidays and
couldn't help herself from• “ over doing" for all of her family. Ruth of ten expressed her deep love and admiration for her dad, Glen Bulow, and her mother, DeEtte (Chamberlain) Bulow. During her considerable years, Ruth developed long lasting friendships with people everywhere she lived.
Ruth was preceeded in death by her older sister, Maureen Sarkozy of Dearborn, Michigan, her husband, Wi lliam Ellis, two son-in-laws (Royal Stowe and Thomas Dullam) and a very loved granddaughter (Kirsten R. Dullam). Her surviving family includes her three children, grandson Thomas Dullam, Jr., Deonna M. (Ellis) Bethard of Ohio, and Lori N. (Ellis) Ochoa of Camarillo, California. Ruth's bloodline runs through eleven great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren in Ohio and California.
Graveside services and burial will be at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura on Thursday, September 25, at 3pm with Pastor Rob Perkins officiating. There will be a reception and celebration of
her lif e at her home following the ceremony. Private viewing for immediate family only wi ll be Wednesday night , from 5-7pm, at Charles Carroll Funeral Home in Ventura. Please make any donations desired to the First Christian Church in Ventura, or to the humane society.
