Surrounded by her loving family, Sharon Sue (Sherrie) Carlson, age 73, of Ventura, CA, passed away at home on November 2, 2017. She was born in Wichita, KS to Robert and Gladys (Logan) Shuck on May 22, 1944.
Sherrie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by Charles, her loving husband of 25 years, her son Steve Thorson; her daughters Suzanne (John) Grendahl of San Diego and Anne (Brett) Harvey of Pismo Beach; grandchildren, Michael and Jake Grendahl, and Gavin and Olivia Harvey; by step-children Mona (Frank) White, Russell (Sharon) Carlson, Michelle (Mike) Evans, and six step-grandchildren, and by brother Robert Shuck of San Jose, CA; and many other relatives and friends.
Sherrie worked in Omaha for the Firehouse Dinner Theatre and then at Data Transmission Network for a number of years. She moved to Minnesota and then to Ventura, California where she enjoyed her retirement years.
Her family and friends remember her by her warmth and constant smile. Numerous friends and family filled the house months before her passing.
Sherrie was an avid reader and enjoyed book club and supporting the local library. She took pleasure in helping those less fortunate. Sherrie found much joy in writing to her sponsored children through Compassion International. She was always grateful for the loving providence that blessed her life with joy and kindness.
Sherrie enjoyed a successful career as a watercolor artist. Many Ventura area homes contain originals or copies of her paintings.
The family thanks the friends who came from Nebraska, Minnesota and New Jersey to visit with Sherrie during her months-long battle with pancreatic cancer. We proudly thank the hospice care professionals and round-the-clock attending aides for the care and comfort they provided.
Sherrie and her husband had previously moved from Nebraska to Minnesota, then 21 years ago to Ventura. Family and friends will participate in three private commemorative observances to be held in sequence at Sherrie’s home community in each of those areas.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Compassion International at www.compassion.com.
Arrangements under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura, CA.
