Thomas Dean Imgrund, 83, of Ventura, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2010. He was born December 2, 1926 in Wadena, Minnesota to Charles and Ida Imgrund, and had been a Ventura County resident 47 years.
Tom grew up in Long Beach, where he graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1944, and received an Associate’s Degree from Long Beach Community College in 1948. From 1944 to 1946, he proudly served his country as a yeoman in the United States Navy onboard the USS Klondike (AD/AR22).
He had a long career with the Shell Oil Company, first as a draftsman and later as an engineering assistant. While with Shell, he worked in Ely, Nevada; Seattle, Washington; and Long Beach, Los Angeles and Ventura.
Tom loved steak dinners, Glenn Miller’s music, and taking camping trips throughout the United States with his young family. After retirement, he and Ruby took several ocean cruises and toured South Korea.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Ruby; daughter, Christine Imgrund, of Springfield, Virginia; son, Steven Imgrund, of Bakersfield; former daughter-in-law, Eileen Imgrund, of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Heather Imgrund, of Santa Barbara and Nicholas Imgrund, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; granddaughter-in-law, Megumi Yamazaki, of Santa Fe; great-grandson, Dean Imgrund, of Santa Fe; sisters-in-law, Joyce Zimmer, of Palm Desert and Cleo Nell Edwards, of Lake Havasu, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ida Imgrund; parents-in-law, Marlin and Stella Wooten; sister-in-law, Alene Shook; and brothers-in-law, Murry Wooten, Ron Zimmer and Miles Shook.
Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura, with the Reverend Dan Hull officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, Ventura., Ventura.
