Wes Allan Schmidt, 69, of Ventura, passed away suddenly Saturday, February 20, 2016 at his home in Ventura. He was surrounded by his wife and family. Wes was born December 17, 1946 in Winner, South Dakota. He was a resident of Ventura County for 50 years after moving here from Bakersfield.
Wes was a superintendent for Ward Corporation, working on many large excavating projects in Ventura County and was a member of the Laborer’s Union Local #585. He retired in 2013.
He was a member of the Ventura Elks Lodge, #1430 and the Ventura Moose Lodge, #1394. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending as much time as he could with his family and friends. Wes will long be remembered for his daily 4AM ritual of joining friends at the local “Donut Shop”, where many of the world’s problems were discussed and solved!
Wes is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Anita Louise Schmidt; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mike Ishihara; daughters, Lori Fuller and Sheri Garcia; grandchildren, Sarah Fuller, Anise Rivas, Lindsey Fuller, and Cameron Garcia, all of Ventura; brother and sister-in-law, Franklin and Jan Schmidt of Yorba Linda; his niece and her husband, Caryn and Brian Despie along with their children, Connor and Cole Briar of San Jose. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Milburn and father, Frank Schmidt.
A memorial service and celebration of Wes’s life will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016, 1:00 P.M. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. A reception will follow at The Elks Lodge, 3:00 P.M., 2126 Knoll Drive, Ventura.
