Allan was the cherished husband of Trish Stewart; loving father of Kevin Jones (Anne), Derek Jones and Steve Jones (Tisha); proud grandfather of Laura Jones, Alex Jones and Simon Jones; and stepfather of Michael Stewart. He was also a valued friend to many, and his presence will be deeply missed. Allan was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Louise Jones, in 1992.
Born on September 10, 1936, in Ghent, Belgium, Allan immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario with his parents in 1950. He became a proud Canadian citizen in December 1959. Allan married Betty Louise (née Proudy) in Dresden, Ontario, in 1960, and together they raised their family in Binbrook, Ontario and Burlington, ON
Allan graduated from McMaster University with a degree in Architecture. He served in the Naval Reserve in Hamilton, Ontario, achieving the rank of Sub-Lieutenant. After a successful career in sales management, Allan retired early at the age of 54.
Before moving to British Columbia, Allan was an enthusiastic wood carver, specializing in caricatures. As a young man, he loved cross-country running, a passion that later evolved into cross-country skiing at Sovereign Lake in Vernon, which he enjoyed until his health no longer allowed. Allan was an active member of the Vernon Outdoor Club and greatly enjoyed cycling and hiking.
He was also a former member of the Kalamalka Fly Fishers Club. Fly fishing and fly tying became a true passion after moving to BC, and Allan and Trish spent many happy hours fishing the lakes throughout the province and struck off his bucket list to salmon fish in both Lake Ontario and Vancouver Island.
The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Pritchett and the nursing staff at the North Okanagan Hospice Society.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Allan’s memory may be made to the North Okanagan Hospice Society or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
A celebration of life will be arranged for friends and family in Vernon in March and in Burlington in June.
