Arvid Merrel Hoglund

October 22, 1938March 14, 2020

It's great sadness to announce the death of Arvid Merle Hoglund on March 14, 2020 after a long, courageous battle with lung disease. Arvid was surrounded during his passing with his wife Audrey, brother Andy, daughters Brenda, Charlene, Patty, and Theressa, and granddaughters Aleisha and Kelsey.

Arvid was born on October 22 1938 in Creston B.C. He was raised in Creston and later moved to Vernon with his parents Andrew and Catharina, and his brother Andy.

On April 18, 1958 Arvid married the love of his life, Audrey, and had four daughters. He worked as a logging truck driver for Chapmans, Mac Gillis Gibbs, and Gorman Bros and received an award from Mac Canada Club for 1 million miles accident free. After retiring from logging, he purchased a fishing resort with Audrey in the spring of 1986. He spent many years running the resort meeting people, making lifelong friendships, and sitting by the campfires telling his RV adventures and hunting.

He loved his dog Sarge, his loyal friend and faithful companion who he missed dearly. Arvid enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling with Audrey and his daughters. He lived his life to the fullest.

Arvid is survived by his loving wife Audrey, daughters Brenda, Charlene (Gary), Patty (Clem), and Theressa (Neil); his brother Andy; sisters-in-law Simone, Marilyn (George), and Lynn (John). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

I have known Arvid and the Hoglund’s since Arvid purchased Pinaus Lake Resort. Myself and my fishing buddy Burt had been going to Pinaus since 1982 with my collie on our annual fishing trips. We had many great experiences over the year’s, camping on the point of Lady King for about ten year’s to finally entering into the cabins (12 & 1) until the closure of the resort in 2017. This was a very sad day!! Pinaus had been our ‘home away from home’ for 34 years and it was like one big family. Arvid and Audrey were always very good to us and we had many good chats and laughs.

Arvid was a staunch, hardworking, very friendly individual, committed to making Pinaus a great fishing area, but he was also a loyal and giving family member who would do anything for his family. He seemed gruff at times, but this was just the hard coating to a soft interior. He looked after our needs and gave us some good advice at times.

Together Arvid and Audrey made our trips rewarding, pleasant and alway ones to look forward to every year. We are ‘catch and release’ fishermen and I don’t believe they thought we caught many fish in the early days at Pinaus, as they never saw us with any. So one night, on the request of their youngest daughter Theressa to catch some fish for her grandmother, we went out to the small bay at the end of the lake. After a couple of hours of fishing we had caught numerous good sized Trout, which we put in the boat’s live fish tank and brought back to them. They were believers from then on! We had many excellent trout fishing days on Pinaus and Lady King and hold many fond memories of our experiences.

We are now coming up to our 38th annual fishing trip now at Roche Lake, but we have always taken one day since the closure to visit Pinaus Lake and wet our lines in the bay at the south end!

Arvid will be truly missed! May his pleasant memories carry the family forward during this tough time. Best to all the family over the days, months and year ahead!!

My husband Tom and I and our four children spent time at Pinaus Lake Resort when our kids were little. One of our favorite memories is when Tom was icefishing, he would give the kids the fish to run up to the cabin where I would cook it up for them on the wood stove . They ate every scrap. Once they dropped the fish and it was snapped up by Arvid’s dog who the kids had to chase down to get their fish back!
