Daryl was born on September 28, 1956, in Athabasca, Alberta, to Lucy May and William Lloyd Hamilton. He grew up alongside his five siblings — Dennis, David, Donna, Donald, and Derrick — in a family where hard work, humor, and resilience were part of everyday life. Daryl was predeceased by his father in 1986.
He was the proud father of four children: Melissa (Mike), Jason (Sylvia), Cory, and Maisun. He was also a loving grandfather to Veronica, Abbey, and Jacob. His grandchildren brought him tremendous joy, and he loved watching them grow.
Daryl graduated from Kelowna Secondary School in 1974 and later attended N.A.I.T to study Civil Engineering. Even early on, it was clear that he had a gift for building things with his hands and imagining what something could become. That gift would shape the work of his life.
He became an incredibly skilled carpenter and built a career through his craftsmanship. Daryl was a man who could do just about every trade. If something was broken, he could fix it. The homes and projects he worked on will stand for years to come — a quiet reminder of his talent, patience, and pride in his work.
One of Daryl’s greatest passions in life was fishing. If there was water nearby, chances are he wanted to be on it — fishing, camping, or boating. His love for the water ran deep, and it became something he shared with his children. He taught all four of them how to fish, passing on not just the skill but the experience: the patience, the early mornings, the stories, and the peace that comes from being out on the water.
Daryl will be remembered for many things: his skill with his hands, his love of the outdoors, his sense of humor, and the quiet ways he showed love through the things he did.
But most of all, he will be remembered as Dad and Grandpa.
The lessons he taught, the memories made around lakes and campsites, the things he built, and the love he gave will live on through his children and grandchildren.
Dad, we will miss you more than words can say.
Thank you for the life you gave us, the things you taught us, and the time we shared — especially the days on the water.
We love you.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 9, 2026, from 2:00–5:00 p.m. at the Four Points Sheraton Airport Hotel in Kelowna
