“Kookaplunka”

After a long, but courageous battle with cancer, Derek passed away quietly on March 9th in Hospice House. With humour, strength and dignity he was welcomed into the arms of God surrounded by his loved ones and now rests peacefully with the Father.

He is survived by his grandchildren: Noah, Ayla, Damien, and Zachery; his children: Catherine (Russell), Jason (Laura), Andrew, Kelly (Monica) and Suzanne (David); his sister Maureen; his brother Denny; as well as Sheelagh and many, many friends throughout the Okanagan.

Always quick with a joke, full of a charm and a warmth that made all who knew him feel lucky he was in their life. Derek will be missed but fondly remembered.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Coldstream on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at the Coldstream Meadows Great Hall.

In lieu of flowers, those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Derek may do so to the North Okanagan Hospice Society or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
