

He was born in Berlin, Germany. He survived the war years as a child, and became an orphan, at the age of 17 where he managed a grocery store before he immigrated to Canada at the age of 19. Once he learned the English language, he enrolled in a senior matriculation course for university entrance to the University of Saskatchewan in Regina to study accounting. He graduated with honors as a chartered accountant and practiced in Regina for many years. He retired to Vernon, BC, where he pursued various activities. He worked for Vernon Animal Society as a treasurer, golf became a great passion, weekly workouts in senior gym classes, had coffee with his buddies and enjoyed travelling to various countries.
He is survived by his loving wife Florence of 64 years, daughter, Michelle Schwan, son Darren Schwan and granddaughter Talea van de Graaf.
A service followed by a reception will be held at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home 4303 Pleasant Valley Road Vernon, BC on December 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. All who knew him are welcome to attend.
