It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eleanor Martin, on April 29, 2025 in Vernon, BC. Eleanor was surrounded by family and lots of love when she passed and we can find some comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain.
Eleanor was born on Sept 9, 1939 in Baldur, Manitoba, to Walter and Lillian Hawn. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard (Bernie) Martin, in 1996, and her brother, David Hawn, in 2017. She is survived by her children, Scott, Bev, Chris and Cathy and their families, and her brothers Chris and Laurie, and sister Mary, and their families.
Eleanor grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and later, as a proud military wife, Eleanor spent many years in Trenton Ontario, before going back to Winnipeg, and on to Victoria, BC in 1983 when Bernie retired from the Air Force. She moved to Vernon, BC in 2012 and was thrilled to be closer to 5 of her 8 grandchildren, the youngest being born a couple of months after she moved. Mom was always incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren, for their accomplishments, but most of all for the kind and thoughtful people they each became. She knew that her great-grandchildren would be the same and we know that she would be proud of the legacy she left.
Throughout her life, people and relationships were the most important thing to Eleanor. It is an amazing gift to hear and witness the incredible presence that our Mom had, and the lifelong impact she had on other people’s lives. She valued her family and friends above all else, and her ability to connect with and welcome others, led to the addition of many honorary family members. She was a proud “GG” to 3 great-grandchildren and had been looking forward to the arrival of her fourth.
It is difficult to summarize the life of our amazing Mom, so we won’t try to do that here. Instead we will share our memories and stories at the Celebration of Life, which will take place in Vernon, BC, on Thursday June 19, 2025 at 1 pm. For those who cannot attend in person, there is a link to live streaming of the service. Feel free to share your stories and memories with us at the celebration. If you can’t make it and/or want to share stories, memories, pictures or anything else, please feel free to send them to [email protected]
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Parkinson’s society of BC, the Parkinson’s society of Canada, or another charity of your choice.
In honour of our Mom, cherish your family and friends, and live your life with kindness, patience, forgiveness, and laughter.
