Ernest Robert Buffum
April 21, 1928 – September 7, 2019
It is with sad hearts we advise that Uncle Bob bid his farewells to this world on September 6, 2019, at age 91. 2019, at age 91. Bob (Ernest Robert) Buffum was born Apr 21, 1928 in Vernon BC, the second of 4 children of Isabel (Thompson) and Ernest Thomas Buffum. He was predeceased by his sisters Peggy (Johnson), Thelma (Wallace) and Joan (Leipe), and is lovingly remember by all in his extended family.
Bob worked in forestry for many years on Vancouver Island and in Terrace, where he built his own home. He then completed his engineering technician education at BCIT and worked as a small engine tech until his retirement in 2000, when he moved back to Vernon.
Bob had diverse interests and a curious mind, and continued researching through the net and taking courses into his late 80’s. As an aviation enthusiast, he designed, built, and flew model airplanes. He loved poetry, reading, music, walking, and discussing politics, current events, and history. He enjoyed dining out yet remained trim on his 6’ 4” frame (he was an honorary life-time member of weight watchers). In his 80’s, he participated with family in a number of Victoria TC 10 Km walks, and is likely the only gentlemen to do so in a topcoat and fedora.
Many thanks to Dr. R Waldron and the caring staff at the Vernon Jubilee particularly during Bob’s last couple of weeks.
We will miss his wonderful sense of humor, his determination, positive attitude, and thoughtful insights, and are sad for him that his body failed him while he still had so much enthusiasm for life.
At Bob’s request, there will not be a service however a celebration of life will take place in the spring. For more info, please contact email@example.com. While he did not have children of his own, he will be sorely missed by his many nieces & nephews (3 generations) and their families, and by his buddies and friends.
We love you Bob!
Your wit still strong; Your breath grown weak Your zest for life maintained
Wisdom built; Confusion speaks Yet curiosity remained
Fatigue increased; You sensed your fate Struggled to release
Would love more time; But not like this Accepted pain-free peace
Within our hearts, Gaping wounds To heal with memories
But time can’t steal the love we hold Or the gift of knowing thee

Uncle Bob had a great sense of humor and a deadpan delivery of his often bad jokes that nevertheless made us laugh out loud. He took himself out of one of the Victoria 10k's because he veered off the path. To do otherwise would be cheating, eh?
