Esther Anne Dawson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Esther Dawson on Thursday, April 17, at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. She was born August 8, 1953 in Cartwright, Manitoba to Henry & Nettie Schulz.

Esther approached life with the tenacity of a farm girl who had been driving tractors and haying since childhood. She loved nature and knew the name of nearly every plant she came across (and if she didn’t, she’d look it up!). She spent time living in both Cape Breton Island and Vancouver, before moving to Vernon in the early 1980’s.

Esther had the gift of hospitality. She loved welcoming people into her home and her heart, adopting people as chosen family throughout the years. She was quick to offer support to those she cared about, showing love in practical ways. Esther also shared her love and excitement about “waterfall church” and “starfish church” with those around her.

Esther is survived by her partner, Kevin Welsh, as well as by her children, Lois Dawson and Tim (Colleen) Dawson, and their father, Ron Dawson.

At Esther’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Covenant House BC, a charity Esther believed in with her whole heart and supported in many ways over the years.
