The family of Floyd Arnold Cameron, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle are heartbroken to announce his passing at the age of 88 years young. Arnold was predeceased by his parents, Ross and Gertrude Cameron, his sisters Betty and Fern, his brother Glen and his beloved granddaughter Shawna. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bernice, his two daughters Kim Cameron and Jill Cameron-Paul (Bruce), his 5 grandchildren Kris (Patrick), Lisa (Scott), Joshua, Sarah (James) and Meghan (Mitch) and 5 great grandchildren, Corbin, Addison, Alexis, Logan and Willow. Arnold is also survived by his sisters Ellen (Ken), Sharon (Ed) and Dianne as well as many nieces and nephews who all thought the world of Uncle Arnold.
Arnold was born in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan with the family relocating to Dawson Creek, BC some years later. From a young age Arnold was an independent man, known to ride shank’s pony (hitchhike) all over the countryside whenever the spirit moved him. Arnold began work with Northland Utilities in Dawson Creek, then Grande Prairie following which he landed in Grimshaw, Alberta where he helped the company install gas services throughout the town. It was in Grimshaw where Arnold met and fell in love with Bernice Palmer and they married in 1957. Their daughter Kim was born in Berwyn, Alberta following which the family relocated to Jasper, Alberta where daughter Jill came into their lives. In 1969 the family relocated to Peace River, Alberta where they resided both in town and later on a quarter section hobby farm west of town. Arnold worked with Northland Utilities for 39 years, retiring in 1991 as District Manager. Following that retirement, Arnold took on the consulting role of Natural Gas Pipeline Inspector, working on projects throughout Alberta. In 1997, Arnold and Bernice relocated to Vernon, BC and enjoyed retirement on a beautiful 6 acre property in the Coldstream Valley until moving into Vernon town in 2015.
Over the years Arnold and Bernice spent many wonderful months each year travelling all over the world, making friends along the way. He loved to hunt and fish and spent many enjoyable times with close friends doing just that. Arnold was also an amazing gardener and had a special talent for creating beautiful and much treasured furniture out of diamond willow, a nickname he bestowed on his most recent great granddaughter, Willow. Arnold was one of those people who was liked the first time you met him, a personable, friendly and helpful man who would give his time and effort freely to anyone who needed his help. He was fiercely loving and protective of his family and never put anyone or anything ahead of them. All the grandkids and great grandkids were deeply attached to Poppa and all were his number 1 son, little dumplin, lil’ chicken, sweetheart, baby and other terms of endearment he gave to them and all heard ‘Love you to pieces’ many, many times. Stubborn to a fault, Arnold lived life his way and didn’t give a damn how anyone felt about it. He didn’t tolerate bull shitters and had no time for any Goddamn sons a’ bitches.
The family never thought we would lose Arnold this soon but an unexpected and sudden turn in his health proved too much even for this strong man to beat. Arnold will forever be loved and missed deeply by the entire family. Rest easy Arnold, Poppa, Ace.
