Gary was born on May 6, 1952, an only child to Gordon and Matilda Copan in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. After growing up in the Yorkton area, he graduated Sacred Heart High in 1970. In 1972, he met Donna who he would become the love of his life and wife of over 49 years, until the time of his passing. Gary and Donna went on to have 3 children, Shelly, Jason and Derek, who they raised in Saskatchewan.
Gary found a career with the Saskatchewan government, where he worked for SGI for over 40 years. Outside of work, Gary loved to fish and golf, but he especially loved to watch and participate in his children’s sports as a fan, a coach and a bus driver. Upon retiring, Donna and Gary would move to Vernon in the Okanagan, a place that was near and dear to Gary’s heart, as his grandparent’s home growing up. While Gary had a number of pass-times, his true passion was spending time visiting and chatting with friends. Gary could spend hours chatting, swapping stories and telling tales and tended to endear himself with those he spent time with.
Most important to Gary were his 2 grandchildren, Jade and Brayden, he cherished the time he spent with them and they loved to be with their grandpa.
Gary was predeceased by his parents and his son, Derek. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his children, Shelly and Jason; and his grandchildren, Jade and Brayden and his special pups: Mia and Jake.
