Passed away peacefully in her 98th year. Born in Chicago, raised in Manitoba. Predeceased by her husband Raymond, her parents Rev. Arthur and Grace Radley and her sisters Edith Radley and Marjorie Elliott. Greatly missed by her son Douglas, daughter Ann Black, granddaughter Allison Black (Mark Hall), and great granddaughter Eleanor. Fondly remembered by siblings Jeanne Wolfe of Ottawa, Donald Radley (Kathleen) of Thunder Bay, and many nieces and nephews in B.C., Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Gladys was an enthusiastic English teacher at Seaton Junior High. She and Ray had been faithful and involved members of Trinity United Church since they moved to Vernon in 1947. Among many other activities, Gladys was a devoted participant in her book club and dream group. She pursued her interest in social justice as a volunteer for Amnesty International and UNICEF. Her dry sense of humour and enquiring mind will be much missed by her family and friends.
The family wishes to thank Virginia Calvert and the staff at D.J.’s for their considerate care over the last three years and the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their unfailing kindness during Gladys’ last days. A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church, 3300 Alexis Park Drive, Vernon, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30; reception in the church to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Amnesty International ([email protected]; 250-307-8603) or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
