It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Charchuk on Friday August 12th, 2022, at the Polson Residential Care Facility in Vernon B.C at the age of 83. Helen was born in Preeceville Saskatchewan on March 4th 1939.
After Helen married in 1962, she resided in Morinville, Calgary and Camrose Alberta. In 1979 Helen and her husband settled in Sherwood Park Alberta before moving to Coldstream B.C in 2017.
Helen was a spiritual person and throughout her life drew strength and comfort from her church community. Her large extended family, including 9 siblings, was a significant focal point in her life. She remained close with all of her siblings and their families throughout the years and always looked forward to large family occasions
Prior to her marriage, Helen trained and worked as a medical records librarian and eventually transitioned into a full-time mother and home maker. She had a skill for working with numbers that led her to become not only the ‘household manager’ but also the ‘chief financial officer’. Helens successful investments were instrumental in helping save for a comfortable retirement that included international travel and regular visits to extended family.
Throughout her life, Helen was caring and gracious to the people around her. She was ever supportive to those closest to her and has instilled her values of growth and achievement in her children and grandchildren.
Although Helen was afflicted by dementia over the last 10 years of her life, she will be remembered as having a sharp mind, a curious outlook and an appreciation for the ‘details’ in the world around her. She was an accomplished seamstress and had a creative eye that influenced everything from the styles she wore to the colors she chose for her home to the flowers she would select for her bouquets.
Helen is lovingly remembered by her husband Ed and daughters Connie and Bev, along with their husbands (Stephen and Tim) and 4 grandchildren (Ryan, Evan, Savannah and Noah). She is survived by her sisters Mary, Olive, Roseann and Sonia, and her brothers Steve, Michael, and Peter. She is predeceased by her daughter Valerie, Sister Pauline, and Brother Fred.
The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the staff at the Polson Residential Care Facility. Even in the difficult times of COVID their compassion and care of Helen was exemplary.
A Celebration of Helen’s life will be held on August 26, 2022, 10:30 am at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, Vernon BC. Internment to follow at the Coldstream Cemetery
