Joyce Buchanan 1933 – 2020

Joyce Eileen Buchanan was welcomed into the arms of her Lord on Sunday October 4, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband Bruce in 1996. Joyce was born in Montreal, lived her early life in Quebec and Ontario, but spent most of her years in Western Canada, first in Alberta and then in BC, where she spent her last 42 years in Vernon. All who knew her delighted in her quirkiness, her quick laughter, her love for animals, and her riveting storytelling that kept memories alive. Joyce leaves behind her 3 children and their spouses: Adam (Leslie), Mark (Cheryl), Jenny (Alex) and her 8 grandchildren Adam, Amanda, Lauren, Sarah, Austin, Nicola, Cassidy and Andrew. As well many extended family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, and in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Vernon Hospice House, the Humane society, or charity of your choice.

Dear Mark and Cheryl and others of the Buchanan Family: Grace and Peace!! I remember your mother from the years when my wife and I first came back from the mission field in Brazil and Angola in 2003. Because of the sudden death of Pastor Wes DeZeeuw in January, 2004, I became the interim pastor of First Baptist Church in Vernon, B.C. and your mother attended the church at that time. It was a thrill to get to know her and her seemingly inseparable friend, Elsie Rinvold. Please accept my sincerest condolences and sympathies on the passing of your mother from this life. She had a glorious coronation in heaven, I'm sure. Most sincerely - Pastor/Missionary Karl R. Janzen

Words seem inadequate to express the sadness I feel about Joyce's passing. With sincere sympathy I wish her family and friends, (myself included), peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in our hearts. I met Joyce (and Bruce) when they moved to 36th Avenue many years ago, and we were neighbours and friends ever since. Joyce and I shared many visits, lunches, outings and phone calls over the years, even up until recently. I will lovingly remember her and truly miss her...Julie Warhurst xoxo
