Margaret (Peggy) Helen Stickney May 26, 1925 - September 3, 2020
Peggy Stickney passed away peacefully in Kelowna, BC on September 3, 2020 at the age of 95 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul on July 21, 2003 and daughter, Paula Sue on July 25, 2003.
Peggy was born to Harold and Bertha Skjeie on May 26, 1925 in Red Deer, Alberta and grew up in Olds, Camrose, Morrin and Viking. She received her teaching certificate at Normal School in Edmonton and furthered her education at Summer School and at the University of Alberta (Education). She met her husband, Paul, in Morrin, Alberta. They were married on February 22, 1964 and resided in Calgary, Alberta where Paul had a hair salon. Two children followed, first Mitchell and then Paula Sue. Peggy joyfully devoted her time to her family and delighted in entertaining extended family and friends. In the summer of 1981 Peggy and Paul relocated to The Valley of the Sun in the Okanagan with their two children. They initially enjoyed time in their A-frame cabin before building a lovely cedar home. In this beautiful setting they welcomed many family and friends who were passing through the Okanagan, reminding them to “Call ahead and book a bed.” Peggy always made her guests feel special with air buns, cinnamon buns, angel food cakes and endless yummy treats. In 1997 they relocated to The Gracelands in Vernon where Peggy participated actively in the community. Following her husband’s death Peggy moved to The Hamlets Assisted Living Residence in Vernon.
Wherever life took her Peggy was always active in her community, whether it was with church functions, bowling, square dancing, Zumba, or Eastern Star. This past year Peggy was presented with her 60 year pin with the Eastern Star. Peggy would always find a graceful way to speak kindly in any situation. She lived up to her motto of: “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me”.
Always bright, smiling, and cheery she will be missed by her son, Mitch (Sandy) and brother, Bob (Audrey) as well as her four grandchildren, Shealyn, Brandt, David and Ben whom she adored, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Peggy’s life is planned for the spring of 2021 in Calgary, Alberta. The family would like to extend deepest thanks to Rev. Dr. Teresa A. Charlton, and all who made possible the private family funeral that took place at Knox Presbyterian Church in Vernon, on Wednesday, September 8, 2020. We will be forever grateful.
