It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Bernice on Saturday October 10, 2020 a month before her 95th birthday. She was pre-deceased by her husband, John, her son, Tony, and her siblings, Doris and Ralph. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Wendy PIccini (Randy), Margaret Lebeuf (Cam Chow), and daughter-in-law Jacqui Tyler and foster son Steven Frederickson as well as her six grandchildren Tyler, Trevor, Tanis, Sandy, Timon and Derek and six great grandchildren Keith, Jude, Kohl, Cyrus, Henry and William.
John, her loving husband, saw Bernice swimming at the river in Neepawa and said, “That girl in the yellow bathing suit, is the one I’m going to marry”. John and Bernice were married some seven years later, November 10, 1945 in Neepawa at her family farm until John passed on May 31, 2011, over 65 years. They settled in Winnipeg and gave birth to Wendy in 1948, Tony in 1951, and Margaret (Mari) in 1957. The family then moved to Vancouver in 1966. The family grew again in 1972 with Steven their foster son.
She was a secretary over the years, including Dominion Life, School secretary in Winnipeg, and retired as a secretary for Social Services at Vancouver General Hospital in 1986. They retired and moved to Vernon.
Bernice was an avid reader and traveller as well. Hawaii 5 times, Mexico, Scotland as well as many camping trips in the everchanging Motorhome including across Canada. Her last big trip to Newfoundland was one of her favourites. Her hobbies included sewing, painting on porcelain, but her favourite was wood carving. During her life she enjoyed swimming, curling, skating, baseball, and badminton. In retirement she enjoyed square dancing, swimming, and cards. Her last loves were horseshoes and bowling which she did until she was in her nineties.
Family and friends were always important to her. The extended family, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews were an important part of her life and she loved them all.
Over all the years she never missed connecting with friends with an annual Christmas poem catching everyone up on what the family was up to.
The family would like to thank her family doctor, Dr. David Arnold and Oncologist Dr. Rankin for their care. We would also like to thank Ruth and Barry, Ruth and Ken, and Judy for their wonderful and tender attention to Mom.
In lieu of flowers please send a memorial donation to The Upper Room Mission, Vernon or Bridges to New Life, Kelowna two of Mom’s favourite charities.
We will miss you Mom but, we rejoice in the fact that you are in the arms of Jesus, your loving husband, John and adorable son Tony.
