With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the age of 90. She was determined to make it to her 90th birthday and celebrated that milestone two days before she passed away.
Left to mourn her passing are her 3 children Heather, David (Maureen) and Mary, grandchildren Melissa (Mark), Kristy (Bob), Alyssa (Tom) and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2006.
Maxine was born on July 30, 1930 in Kamloops. During her childhood years, she lived on a farm at Knutsford where her father worked as a farmer and rancher. She went to elementary school at Anderson Creek School and attended high school in Kamloops, finishing grade 12 and a commercial course. She worked at BC Tel in Kamloops as an office clerk before she met and married Gordon Drake in 1953. Together they lived and raised their family in Calgary, Salmon Arm and Merritt before finally settling in Vernon in 1972.
Maxine was a devoted wife and mother; a caring, kind and hardworking woman. She enjoyed reading, dancing, listening to western music, playing piano, baking and researching family history. She and Gordon liked to explore the open road in their RV and in later years they enjoyed many pleasurable bus tours.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Hearthstone Manor for their loving care of Maxine, and Dr. Ross Waldron for his compassion and dedicated medical care.
A private gathering will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Kamloops. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Maxine to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation.
Mom, you will be loved and remembered forever. Each one of us has been touched by you in a very special way and we will miss you dearly. Rest in peace.
