Peter Naumenko passed away peacefully on March 7, 2013. He was 86 years old. He was born in 1927 in Blaine Lake, SK. He could always find the people who came from Saskatchewan and loved to find out from which part they came. He lost most of his hearing as a young child and that was a great frustration all of his life. He grew up on a farm and farmed for many years, first in Saskatchewan and then in Alberta. When his father-in-law wished to retire from Okanagan Church Supplies and Health Foods, he became a businessman in Vernon, B.C. He learned many things about the health food business. There he proved himself to be good at carpentry, remodelling the store. He was a hard-working man. After he retired, he volunteered at friends’ auto shops, doing a bit of mechanical work and some janitorial. He also helped his son-in-law by painting hundreds of boards for his son-in-law and daughter’s new home. Many a time, he spent shovelling snow for others. He loved babies - spending many hours with his brother’s daughters and then his grandchildren. With his grandchildren, he would pat and rock them to sleep and then would doze off himself. There are many pictures of him in that situation. In the last years of his life, he had many physical problems but the health care workers all found him to be "such a sweet man”. Thank you to each and every one of them for taking such good care of him!
Peter will be sorely missed by his wife, Esther, his son-in-law and daughter, Mal and Leta, his son and daughter-in-law, Cy and Sue, his grandchildren, Xander, Isaac, Viv & Dax, and his son and daughter-in-law, Ian and Bea.
Peter did not want a service, so his family and those who knew him at Silver Springs Residence had an informal memorial on March 9th. Be goody dad!
