Richard Andrew Paul (Dick)

With a heavy heart the family of Dick Paul announces his passing on January 16, 2020, 21 years to the day of losing his loving wife Pat.

Richard was born April 12 1929 in Kamloops B.C. and was the youngest of 3 children. He was predeceased by his 2 elder sisters.

He met his beloved Patricia in Prince Rupert while working on the rail road then started working at the Skeena Pulp mill after they were married on October 3, 1952. In October 1960 he moved his young family to Castlegar and having 2 more children, increasing his family to seven children. He raised his family there until his retirement from Celgar Pulp mill in 1992.

He loved the outdoors and spent time with his family and friends camping, hunting, fishing and boating down the Arrow Lakes. He also had a passion for curling in his younger years and went to many bonspiels with his wife

As an instrument mechanic you could always find Dick tinkering with his many vehicles and helping others with theirs. He was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. He taught all of his children how to maintain and repair their own vehicles which has come in handy over the years. In later years he taught himself many computer skills and became quite computer savvy.

Dick was very involved in his Catholic faith. He and his wife participated in many missions and retreats throughout B.C. and Arizona. He was very proud to achieve his 4 th degree status with the Knights of Columbus.

During retirement he and his wife traveled in their motor home to Arizona several times and really enjoyed it. They moved to Victoria and this is where they got their beloved dog Sammy who was their pride and joy.

Dick always lived life to the fullest until he started showing signs of dementia which took away his independence and prevented him from doing a lot of the things he enjoyed. One of his favourite indulgences that he continued to enjoy until the end of his life was a delicious "Dilly Bar" from Dairy Queen.

He leaves to mourn his passing his children, Andrea (Doug) of Trail B.C., Shelda (Terry) Vernon B.C., Deborah of Calgary, Donald ( M'Liz) of Fogo Island, Newfoundland, Patricia of Calgary, Katherine (Sandi) of Calgary. As well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and many friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Patricia, his son Richard, son-in-law Gerry, and 3 grand children Matthew, Shannon, and Jeremy.

A private family celebration of Dick's life will be held this summer in Victoria when his remains will be joined together with his wife.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society or any charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Monashee Mews for the excellent care he received while being a resident there the past 6 years.
